Kohima, Mar 9 (UNI) The Post Graduate Students' Union (PGSU) of the Nagaland University (NU) continued their agitation against Vice-Chancellor G D Sharma demanding his resignation.

PGSU sources said almost 200 students from Kohima and Medziphema campuses of NU gathered in front of the Kohima campus and locked the maingate keeping the staff away and not allowing the office to function. They also burnt Professor Sharma in effigy amid shouting slogans demanding his resignation.

Meanwhile, the delegates of Nagaland University Teachers' Association (NUTA), presently camping in Delhi, submitted a representation to the Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG) demanding thorough investigation by agencies under their purview such as the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) or Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) into mismanagement and misappropriation of funds as alleged by the NUTA.

NUTA President Rosemary Dzuvichu in a statement said they have submitted representations to visitor and CAG yesterday, demanding a thorough investigation by the CBI or CVC into the mismanagement of funds by the Vice-Chancellor. However, no assurance have yet been given by the visitor or the CAG.

It may be mentioned here that Prof. Sharma had resigned from the vice chancellorship on February 28 last following the agitation by NUTA and the students, but yesterday NUTA officials from Delhi said that the officials of MHRD had informed that Prof. Sharma had withdrawn his resignation on March two.

Following the agitation by the teachers and students demanding acceptance of resignation of Prof. Sharma, the entire academic system is fully paralysed.
