No proposal to abrogate MPLAD Scheme under consideration
New Delhi, Mar 9 (UNI) Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Statistics and Programme Implementation G K Vasan today informed the Rajya Sabha no proposal ws under consideration to abrogate the Member of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme (MPLADS).
However, MPLADS guidelines have been comprehensively revised and issued on November 16, 2005.
The Ministry has further sought views of all Members of Parliament, State Governments and the Central Ministries and Departments concerned for improvement in the implementation of the scheme, Mr Vasan added.
Replying on statistical system in the country, the Minister denied that the statistical system in the country was outdated.
Mr Vasan further said that in general statistics generated by the statistical system in the country are based on scientific methodologies and correctly reflect the situation in the country.
However, in view of evolving new methodologies or advancement in technologies, statistical techniques, there is always scope for improvement in the system.
The Government is taking major steps to modernise the statistical system in the country, he added.
