No ECR required for Indian citizen visiting Thailand

New Delhi, Mar 9 (UNI) Thailand does not enjoy any more the 'No Emigration Check Required' status as the government has withdrawn with immediate effect the exemption given to an Indian citizen visiting Thailand.

According to a notification issued by the Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs here today, the Government has withdrawn the exemption given from the operation of Section 22 of the Emigration Act, 1983, to every citizen of India going to Thailand with immediate effect.

Accordingly, Indian citizens desiring to visit Thailand and having 'Emigration Check Required' stamp on their passports are advised to get a clearance from the nearest office of the Protector of Emigrants located at Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Thiruananthapuram, Cochin, Hyderabad and Chandigarh before their departure.

Hitherto, there were 54 countries for which 'No Emigration Check' was required. With the notification issued today excluding Thailand from this list, only 53 countries remain in this category.
