Miscreants evading arrest even as South Goa remained peaceful

Panaji, Mar 9 (UNI) The disturbed areas of South Goa remained ''absolutely peaceful'' after four companies of para-military forces were deployed since trouble broke out last week, following demolition of an abandoned illegal religious structure.

Meanwhile, efforts were being made to apprehend the miscreants suspected in vandalism that forced people belonging to minority community to flee to safety, police said.

The people started coming back home while the revenue authorities were assessing the damage caused to their houses, business establishments, vehicles and others for fully compensating of the losses.

The government had not yet conceded the demand of both the Congress and the BJP for instituting a judicial probe into the disturbances as it was consulting experts for legal opinion.
