Manhas, Sodhi hit centuries to help North, reach 284 for 3

Jaipur, Mar 9: Magnificient centuries by skipper Mithun Manhas and by R S Sodhi helped North Zone piled up 284 for 3 in reduced 49 overs in their Deodhar Trophy League tie against East Zone at the SMS stadium here today.

Manhas -- who had scored a century against South Zone at Udaipur only two days back -- displayed brilliant form today also as he put on 155 off 179 balls for the third wicket with R S Sodhi who remained unbeaten after making a hurricane 108 off 109 balls which contained eight fours and three sixes.

The partnership was broken when medium pacer R Bose bowled Manhas for 105. Manhas faced 128 balls and hit eleven fours.

Batting first, North Zone though lost opener Shikhar Dhawan for only 5, bowled by R Bose. Thereafter, Gautam Gambhir played a fiery knock of 39 off 29 balls with six fours and a six. He was clean-bowled by S S Paul.

Pankaj Dharmani, who added 47 runs for the fourth wicket with Sodhi returned unbeaten on 21 off 20 balls.

R Bose took two for 66 for East Zone and Saurav Ganguly did not bowl today.
