Karunanidhi to oppose MDMK's continuance in UPA

Chennai, Mar 9 (UNI) DMK President M Karunanidhi, whose party is a key constituent of the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) at the Centre, today said he would oppose the MDMK's continuance in the UPA.

The Congress High command knows his view with regard to the continuance of the MDMK in the UPA, Mr Karunanidhi said at the party's three-day Conference at Tiruchirapalli.

The DPA's estranged ally MDMK had quit the alliance and sealed an agreement with the ruling AIADMK for the May eight Assembly polls in the State. But MDMK General Secretary Vaiko asserted that his party would continue to remain an ally of the UPA at the Centre and provide unconditional support to it.

For its part, the Congress, heading the UPA at the Centre, had stated that a final decision on whether the MDMK should remain in the UPA would be taken after ascertaining the views of Mr Karunanidhi.

When asked about this, Mr Karunanidhi, emerging after finalising seat sharing agreements with Congress, CPI(M) and the IUML today, said the Congress high command definitely knows what would be his view on the issue.
