Bangalore, Mar 9 (UNI) The one day strike called by employees of the Karnataka government was called off today following an assurance from Chief Minister H D Kumaaraswaamy to consider their long pending demands.

Speaking to newsmen here after a meeting with the representatives of the state government employees association Mr Kumaaraswaamy said that he would soon convene a meeting of all top government officials and discuss the problems related to the government employees. He would also discuss with Deputy Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa who holds the Finance portfolio, he added.

Association President H N Seshegowda, talking to newsmen separately, said the strike had been called off following the assurance from the Chief Minister. He also appealed to the striking employees to return to work immediately.

The employees were on state-wide strike following a call given by the association to protest against delay in considering their demands which among others included granting same benefits vis-a-vis the central government employees. Attendence in most of the government offices including the secretariat was thin following strike. Elaborate security arrangements had been made to ensure peace throughout the state.
