K J Alphonse resigns from civil service
Thiruvananthapuram, Mar 9 (UNI) Senior IAS officer K J Alphonse Kannamthanam, known as a crusader against corruption when he headed the Delhi Development Authority, today resigned amid speculation that he might contest the coming Assembly polls in Kerala. Mr Kannathaman, who is holding the post of Land Revenue Commissioner in Kerala, submitted his resignation to Chief Secretary Mohammad Riazuddin at the Stat Secretariat after calling on Chief Minister Oommen Chandy at his residence.
When contacted by newspersons, he said he had been working for the past 25 years in government service and now wanted to do something else for the people.
Asked whether he would contest the elections, he said there was still time to decide.
However, there were reports that the Marxist-led Left Democratic Front has identified him as an LDF-supported independent candidate at the Kanjirapally Assembly constituency in Kottayam district.
