JET programme to be expanded in India

Chennai, Mar 9 (UNI) The Japanese Embassy and the Consulates-General at Kolkata, Chennai and Mumbai have invited applications from Indian youth for the '2006 Japan Exchange and Teaching (JET) Programme.' The Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) had decided to expand the JET Programme in India so as to recruit more Indian youth to foster friendly relations between the two countries, a release from the Consulate-General of Japan here said.

The JET programme invites university graduates from overseas to participate in international exchange and foreign language education programmes throughout Japan. It offers them the opportunity to work as either Assistant Language Teachers in elementary and secondary schools or Coordinators for International Relations in select local government offices in Japan, it said.

In the year 2005, 5,853 participants from 44 countries joined the programme, the release added.

Applicants can get more information on the JET Programme by visiting the MOFA website and get application forms from the website of the Embassy of Japan in New Delhi.
