Jammu, Mar 9: Pandemonium prevailed in the Lagislative Assembly of Jammu and Kashmir assembly as the Opposition National Conference (NC) stood by its demand for a high level enquiry into the alleged backdoor appointments and irregularities in some projects of the phe, irrigation and flood control departments compelling speaker Tara Chand to adjourn thehouse for the day today (Mar 9, 2006).

As the question hour began, the opposition leaders were up on their feet demanding the setting up of a house committee to prove charges of irregularities in appointments made in the department, including water supply and irrigation projects in Poonch. As Speaker Tara Chand did not heed to their demand they created an uproar, forcing the Speaker to adjourn the house for ten minutes.

As the house assembled again there was no change in the attitude of the Opposition and this time members from the treasury benches too stood up to counter the tirade, resulting in uproarious scenes and heated exchanges between the ruling and opposition sides. When despite repeated requests from the Chair to the memebers to take their seats proved vain, the Speaker adjourned the House for the day.

The house had to be adjourned twice and then finally for the day yesterday also due to the ruckus created by the Opposition.
