IUML to contest 3 seats in TN polls
Chennai, Mar 9: The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), heading the Democratic Progressive Alliance (DPA) in the state, today (Mar 9, 2006) allotted three seats to the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) for the May eight Assembly elections.
An agreement to this effect was signed between DMK President M Karunanidhi and IUML State President Kadhar Mohideen here, a DMK release said.
As agreed, the IUML would contest on DMK's Rising Sun symbol in the three constituencies, it added.
In the 2001 Assembly elections, the IUML had unsuccessfuly contested one seat in alliance with the AIADMK.
Later, the party severed ties with the AIADMK and joined the DPA.
