Shimla, Mar 9 (UNI) Himachal Pradesh Irrigation and Public Health Minister Kaul Singh Thakur today lauded Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh for announcing several schemes to check the declining sex ratio in the state.

Participating in the discussion on general budget for 2006-07, he said introduction of Mother Teresa Asahay Matri Sambal Yojana, Mukhya Mantri Kanya Dan Yojana and Indira Gandhi Balika Suraksha Yojana were some of the initiatives of the state government to check female foeticide and check the declining sex ratio in the state.

Mr Thakur said the state government has also decided to reward 10 panchayats of the state where the female ratio was higher than males and this, he said, would be apart from the regular budget.

He termed the 2006-07 Budget, presented in the Assembly by the Chief Minister, the best ever, saying that the opposition was opposing it for the sake of opposition only.

Mr Dhumal supported a few initiatives of the state government but kept himself to quoting from the figures from the Budget and failed in lauding the government or its positive proposals.

The state government's achievement in education, health and social sector could be gauged from the India Today's survey that adjudged Himachal the best in education and second in social sector and health.
