Heroin seized, Lankans held
Chennai, Mar 9 (UNI) The Narcotics Control Bureau (south zonal unit) has arrested two Sri Lankan nationals and seized from them 1.994 kgs of heroin, valued at Rs two crore in the international market.
An official release here said that the officers, acting on specific information, had intercepted two persons in front of a motel at suburban Poonamallee on March seven and seized the contraband, concealed in false bottom of a travelling zipper bag.
The duo had brought the heroin from Mumbai via Bangalore to Chennai for onward illegal transhipment to Sri Lanka. Both were arrested and remanded to judicial custody, the release said.
So far this year, the bureau had sezied about 42 kgs of heroin and arrested 21 people, including ten Sri Lankan nationals, the release added.
