Heat and dust, not for voters in Pondy

Pondicherry, Mar 9 (UNI) The election department has decided to erect "shamiana" at all polling booths to reprieve voters from the scorching sun during the Assembly elections on May three and eight.

The decision was taken in a meeting between District Election Officer-cum-District Collector Theevaneethi Das and other senior officals.

The meeting also decided to ask licence holders to surrender their arms and ammunition to the nearest police station and set up excise check posts and peace committees at all vulnerable areas to prevent any untoward incident.

Meanwhile, the police department has identified different places for political parties to hold public meetings without causing any inconvenience to the public.

The sainik Welfare Department has asked ex-servicemen interested in bandobust duty to register themselves with it.
