Harassment from teacher, student commits suicide in AP

Vizianagaram, Mar 9 (UNI) Unable to bear the alleged sexual harassment by a lecturer a college student committed suicide by hanging herself at her residence here.

According to police officials, the 20-year-old girl, a final year BSc student, in her suicide note yesterday stated that she was sexually harassed by the lecturer throughout the three years of her course.

Police took the accused into custody after students and parents held protests. The students also beat up the lecturer before police took him away.

Soon after hearing the news this morning, a large number of irate college students squatted in front of district police office, demanding the immediate arrest of lecturer Govindaraju. Ironically, the incident happened on the night of 'International Women's Day.' Superintendent of Police Bhavna Saxena said it was found that earlier the accused had been dismissed from some other local private colleges on charges of questionable behaviour before he joined the present college.
