Guard kill criminal fleeing from bank

New Delhi, Mar 9 (UNI) A guard at a bank in Kashmere Gate area of North Delhi shot dead a man this afternoon when he tried to flee after being caught while trying to encash a 'forged' cheque.

Sarvesh (28) was shot at by the guard posted at the Kashmere Gate branch of Punjab&Sindh Bank at about 1525 hrs when he fled after being asked to sit, according to senior police official.

''The accused had come to encash a Rs 1.15 lakh cheque but as his signature did not match with the bank records, he was detained by the bank staff which also called the police.'' Sensing trouble Sarvesh, who had been asked to sit on a bench, after a while ran towards the exit gate. Hearing the shouts by staff members and watching the accused flee, the guard shot at him, said the official.

''He died on the spot.'' Investigations revealed that he had a criminal background, said another official.
