Govt to raise hydel power capacity: Shinde

New Delhi, Mar 9 (UNI) The Government plans to raise hydro capacity in the country by 11,125 megawatt, Minister for Power SushilKumar Shinde said today.

As per mid-term appraisal of the tenth five-year plan, the anticipated hydro capacity addition will be about 10,174 megawatt.

The present installed capacity of hydro power stations is 31,954 megawatt, Mr Shinde told the Rajya Sabha.

No hydro electric project included in mid-term appraisal of the tenth plan is pending for concurrence in the Central Electricity Authority, he said in a written reply.

In response to another question, the minister said ultra mega power projects are being planned in Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Chhattisgarh, Karnataka and Maharashtra.

Each will have a capacity of 4,000 megawatt. Special purpose vehicles have been set up for the same, said Mr Shinde.
