Govt to give face lift for Mizoram tourism in 2006
Aizawl, Mar 9 (UNI) Mizoram government has chalked out various new schemes to give a facelift to the state in order to attract more travellers during the current year.
During 2006-2007, government has planned to construct new multi-tech tourist lodges at Zokhawthar (Indo-Myanmar border), Sakawrdai, Khamrang, Tlabung, Kanhmun and Saichoo, in the Western belt of Mizoram, at the cost of Rs 6.67 crores, the tourism officials here today informed.
Eco-tourism facilities at Reiek, tourist resort at Hmuifang and tourist reception centre at Berawtlang will also be constructed during the current fiscal year at the cost of 4.70 crores.
The state tourism department in collaboration with the Indian Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC), is creating a tourist destination at Champhai with an amount of Rs 4.42 crore, tourist circuit at Aizawl-Lungle (Phase I) at the cost of Rs 6.3 crore and another tourist circuit in northern Mizoram with an amount of Rs 7.8 crores.
During the current year 29,893 domestic tourists and 230 foreign tourist have visited the state, the officials said adding the department is presently sponsoring many young trainees in food craft level and hotel management courses.
