FICCI-Yes Bank report calls for focus on PPP

New Delhi, Mar 9 (UNI) Strategies that will showcase opportunities to develop and harness the full potential of agrifood business between India and the CIS countries -- Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Ukraine -- were today highlighted in a joint report prepared by FICCI and Yes Bank.

The special Knowledge Report, titled 'INDIA-CIS: Partners in AgriFood Business' and released at the India-CIS Meet on Agrifood Business, organised by the Chamber in cooperation with the Ministry of Commerce, details strategies that can be implemented for sustained and continuous investment in this sector in the two regions.

Among the various sub-sectors the report focuses on, are agrifood business including Animal Husbandry, Viticulture, Processed Food, Sugar Confectionery, Seed Industry, Processed Fruits&Vegetables and Oilseed Industry.

It highlights key agribusiness sectors' with emphasis on the entire food value chain encompassing agri-technology, modern agri-infrastructure, agro-machinery and agrifood processing, in the two regions that have great potential for development.

FICCI President Saroj Kumar Poddar said, ''India has a great advantage in terms of knowledge and technical expertise over CIS countries wherever these countries have immense potential in crop production. The expertise of both the parties can be collaborated and taken for the equal development of agribusiness sector of both the countries.'' He added, ''India was one of the largest producers of agri-products in the world and could therefore offer a competitive and viable base for sourcing raw materials.'' Mr Poddar said, Indo-CIS collaboration would be greatly facilitated through developing appropriate linkages among farmers, government and the private sector on the principles of Public Private Partnerships.
