Father convicted for raping his daughter

Mumbai, Mar 9 (UNI) A local court today convicted a father for on the charge of raping his minor daughter in 1998.

Additional Sessions Judge S S Joshi, while pronoucing the judgement, held Tanoj Laxman Pawar guilty of offence punishable under section 376 and 506 (II) IPC and sentenced him to ten years rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs5,000, and in default, to undergo another six months imprisonment.

According to prosecution, the accused, working at Mahalaxmi Race course, after the death of his wife in January, 1997, repeatedly raped his 16-year old daughter and threatened her if she revealed it to anyone.

However, the victim disclosed the incident to her sister who then informed their grandmother, who lodged a complaint with Dharavi police.
