Election Commissioner to visit Pondy tomorrow

Pondicherry, Mar 9 (UNI) Election Commissioner Naveen Chawla will visit Pondicherry tomorrow to see the poll preparedness in the Union Territory, District Election Officer Theeva Neethi Das said tonight.

Addressing a press conference here, Mr Das said the election department had asked the government not to implement the government Order enhancing the wages of the cooperative department employees till the elections as it would amount to violation of the model code of conduct. The government was also advised not to distribute free rice for Pongal in bags with pictures of different party leaders on it, he added.

He said one person of the Vasavi Youth Club, Yanam, was arrested and released on bail. Cases were registered against the club and a mike set seized for using the public address system beyond the prescribed time limit.

In Pondicherry, the AIADMK party was cautioned and the loud speakers switched off at 2200 hrs, he added.
