Dalai Lama congratulates President elect of Costa Rica

Dharamshala, Mar 9 (UNI) Spiritual leader of the Tibetan Government-in-exile, The Dalai Lama, has sent a congratulatory letter to Dr Oscar Arias Sanchez for being elected President of the Republic of Costa Rica, sources in the Tibetan government said today.

''I would like to convey to you my warm felicitations on your being elected the President of Costa Rica for the second time,'' the Dalai Lama's letter addressed to the President read.

The spiritual leader hoped that Mr Sanchez would be able to promote efforts towards disarmament and demilitarization of the world.

Dr Sanchez, 65, won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1987 for his untiring effort to end civil wars that wrecked Central America in the 1980s.

Dr Arias would take the oath of office on May 8, replacing current president Abel Pacheco.
