Collaborative research to combat nutritional disorders

Hyderabad, Mar 9 (UNI) Scientists at a national seminar today expressed the need for collaborative research programmes to combat nutritional disorders.

Speaking at the national seminar on ''Historical Aspects of Diet and nutritional Medicine in Ayrveda'' held at National Institute of Nutrition (NIN), the scientific fraternity of Ayurveda, Nutritional Sciences, Food Technology, Home Science, Pharmaceutical Sciences and Medicine, evaluated strategies to combat nutritional disorders to boost collaborative research programmes.

The scientists observed that many of the nutritional disorders were due to lak of a balanced diet.

Dr A Narayana, Director of the Indian Institute of History of Medicine (IIHM) said the time had come to validate our food and food habits in the scientific paradigm.

He said that Ayurvedic principles as well as ancient and traditional knowledge in the public domain on Diet and dietics should be propagated.

The two-day event organized by IIMH in collaboration with NIN, was sponsored by Department of AYUSH, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India. Many topics on diet and dietics as per principales of Ayurveda and allied sciences will also be discussed.
