Centre reiterates it would bear 2010 Commonwealth Games shortfall
New Delhi, Mar 9 (UNI) The government today reiterated that it would meet the shortfall between revenue and expenditure of the organising committee of the 2010 Commonwealth Games and said Rs 45.50 crore has been allotted for the event this financial year and another Rs 150 crores has been proposed for the year 2006-O7.
In a written answer in the Rajya Sabha today, Panchayati Raj and Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Mani Shankar Aiyar said, ''For the current financial year (2005-6), the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports has been given a budgetary allocation of Rs 45.50 croes and for the next financial year (2006-7) , an allocation of Rs 150.00 crores has been proposed.'' Elaborating on the government's role, he said, ''GOvernment proposes to meet the comopnent of civic infrastructure by means of allocations through Planning Commission; budgetary support for venue infrastructure and for the preparation of the Indian contingent.'' ''It is further proposed that funds for the Games Village will be met partly through budgetary support and partly funded on a public-private partnership basis by DDA and private funding.'' ''It is also proposed that the conduct of the Games be funded through the revenues of the Organising Committee (OC) and by budgetary support till the revenue stream starts to flowing in.
Additionally, Government have undertaken to meet the shortfall between revenue and expenditure of OC,'' he added.
