Lucknow, Mar 9 (UNI) Tightening the noose around rebels, the BSP today filed a writ petiton before Uttar Pradesh Assembly Speaker Mata Prasad Pandey seeking disqualification of 33 party MLAs for violating party whip.

BSP legislature party leader Swami Prasad Maurya met Mr Pandey and handed over the writ.

The move comes in wake of the BSP issuing a whip to its rebel MLAs for their presence in the house along with other members on March 8.

Maurya said several of the 33 rebel MLAs had accepted the whip.

The party had pasted the whip at the residences of those MLAs, who refused to accept the same. The handing over of the whip was also filmed in this case.

''With five rebels already attending the party meeting, only 33 are now left to announce their decision to rejoin BSP,'' he added.

''After the High Court quashed the speaker's verdict of September 6 and 9 2003 and September 7, 2005, the 33 MLAs now belong to BSP and not Samajwadi Party,'' he said.

The BSP had yesterday charged the Speaker with partisan when he, in his interim order, declared that the BSP rebels would continue to share seats with the Treasury benches for the time being.

Maurya reiterated his party would continue its demand inside the house for recognising the rebel MLAs as BSP member after the HC judgement.
