Ban on poultry relaxed

Imphal, Mar 9: The Manipur Government has relaxed the ban on import of poultry items and poultry into the state, government officials here said.

The ban on poultry items in the international border at Moreh will still be enforced, it was added.

Veterinary Department officials said so far there is no report of flu in the region and it was confined to Western India only. All samples sent for tests to Bhopal proved negative and though large number of migratory birds come to Manipur, specially at Loktak lake and Barak valley there was no case of the deadly avian influenza, official said.

Due to the flu scare people stopped buying chicken and other poultry products thus affecting poultry trade. The rate of chicken has also been slashed due to the scare.
