AP CM assures support for development of Biotechnology
Hyderabad, Mar 9 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy today assured all possible support for the development of Biotechnology.
Inaugurating the first international seminar 'Agri Bio Tech 2006, Dr Reddy said his government wanted the farmers not only to make use of the technological advancement but also improve their financial position.
He assured the international scientific community at the seminar that the government would provide adequate funds for the development of biotechnology.
Stating that he knew the problems of a farmer as he himself hailed from a farmer's family, the Chief Minister said cultivation was the most ancient profession in the country on which majority of the population depended. He said his government was making efforts to provide water, power and seeds to the farmers.
Dr Reddy said keeping the of population growth and depletion of water resources in mind, the farmers should take recourse to biotechnology.
Expressing that it would be difficult for the farmers to earn enough in view of the WTO agreement and other reforms in the economic sector, the Chief Minister said the peasants should concentrate on improving the productivity and quality of their produce.
