All three organs of democracy are sovereign: Deshmukh
Mumbai, Mar 9 (UNI) Maharashtra Legislative Council Chairman Shivajirao Deshmukh today said all the three institutions of democracy--executive, judiciary and legislature--are sovereign and none should try to overpower each other.
Speaking at a meet-the-press programme organised by Mumbai Marathi Patrakar Sangh here, Mr Deshmukh said the same opinion was expressed during the recent conference of the presiding officers convened by the Speaker of Lok Sabha.
He was replying to a query on the ongoing debate between the judiciary and parliament.
Mr Deshmukh cited the example of England, where, he said, various parties were given representation in the parliamentary committees depending on their party's strength and even the ministers remain present for such meetings. He would try to have such a system in the state also, he added.
