Guwahati, Mar 09 (UNI) Opposition Asom Gana Parishad today released the first list of 18 candidates for the assembly election to be held in two phases from April 3.

Talking to newsmen here, AGP president Brindaban Goswami said the party had finalised the first list of 18 members where there was no dispute. ''The party will announce the list of candidates in a phased manner after completing discussions with the CPI, CPI(M), ASDC, Bodoland Peoples Party led by Raviram Brahma and other likeminded parties and organisations of the state,'' he said.

He, however, informed that there was no possibility of seat sharing with the Nationalist Congress Party or Asom United Democratic Front.

''The party is confident of securing enough seats this time in view of the mass support,'' Mr Goswami claimed.

He said there were 500 applicants for the 126 assembly seats which spoke of the mass support to this regional opposition party.

The district and regional committees will finalise the list of candidates of each districts and recommend those to the state headquarters. If the district committees failed to reach a consensus, the party's steering committee will take a final decision which will be binding on all, he elaborated.

All sitting AGP MLAs were likely to retain their seats this time also, he indicated.
