ACB takes custody of BMC employee in disproportionate case

Mumbai, Mar 9 (UNI) Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) Judge Ashok Bhangale today granted permission to the anti-corruption bureau (ACB) to take custody of suspended Brihan Maumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) Assistant Engineer Shirish Salvekar in a disproportionate assets case filed against him by the ACB.

Soon after the order, the ACB took custody of Shirish and will produce him before the ACB Court tomorrow for his remand.

The ACB had filed an application in this regard, requesting the court to grant custody of Salvekar, who is at present in judicial custody in the case of unauthorised construction of twin shopping complex-Sara and Sahara- at Crawford Market in South Mumbai.

The court was informed that ACB wanted his custody to question him on the Rs 29,80,550, which was found in his house and other assets.

However, the MCOCA court today adjourned to March 14, the hearing in the trial in the Sara&Sahara case and also the order on the bail application of two suspended BMC officers-- Assistant Commissioner Kiran Acharekar and Assistant Engineer Shirish Salvekar.

The Sara&Sahara commercial complex, allegedly owned by Dawood Ibrahim, was built illegally on a land belonging to the CPWD, which was reserved for a municipal school.

Of the eleven accused, nine who have been arrested, including underworld don Dawood Ibrahim's brother Iqbal Ibrahim Kaskar and Tariq Parveen, deported from Dubai. The remaining two--Dawood Ibrahim Kaskar and Shaikh Babu Chhota Shakeel-- are presently residing in Pakistan.

Last week, the court had framed charges against nine accused-- Abdul Rehman Shaikh, Abdul Sattar, Iqbal Hassan Ibrahim Kaskar, Narendra Rajbhar, Gulam Nabi Tanwar, Hasmukh Shah, Kiran Achrekar, Shirish Salvekar and Tariq Parveen.
