6 die die of hepatitis

Patiala, Mar 9 (UNI) At least six people have reportedly died of hepatitis C in Babarpur village in the district in less than a month.

Punjab Health authorities have rushed a team of senior doctors to the village to take stock of the situation and take the immediate essential measures.

The health department has taken water samples from the village and the surrounding areas in the Nabha sub-division, an official spokesman of the health department here said.

Ten teams comprising of doctors and para medical staff have conducted door-to-door survey in village Babarpur, while the rapid response team from the office of the Civil Surgeon, Patiala had also visited the village, the spokesman said.

However, the department had till yesterday confirmed only one death due to hepatitis C in that village, while the cases of the other deceased were being probed to know the exact cause of the death, the spokesman added.
