UP Govt has lost authority to govern: Dr Joshi

New Delhi, Mar 8 (UNI) Holding the Uttar Pradesh Government responsible for the blasts in Varanasi yesterday, senior BJP leader Murli Manohar Joshi today demanded that the Centre dismiss the Mulayam Singh Yadav Government and hold fresh elections under President's rule.

Dr Joshi, scheduled to leave for Varanasi this evening, told UNI that the blasts were a result of the mishandling of the law and order situation by the state government which had ignored similar incidents in the past like the terrorist attack at Ayodhya, Mau communal violence and the killing of the BJP MLA at Mohammadabad.

''This had emboldened the terrorists to strike at will in the state,'' he said.

The Varanasi blasts were a real proof of such mishandling and Chief Minister Mulayam Singh had lost moral and political authority to govern the state, he stressed.

He said the BJP had been warning the people and the political parties that the ''vote-bank'' politics was causing incalculable damage to the nation and its polity, and was responsible for the present heightening of tensions and belligerance in certain sections of society.

Dr Joshi also urged all the parties and people to ''ensure that nothing was done to push the country to a pre-1947 situation''.
