Sudden hailstorm, rain in Delhi

New Delhi, Mar 8 (UNI) An Upper air cyclonic storm originating from areas in Rajasthan today resulted in a sudden hailstorm and rains in the capital this evening even as the sultry conditions prevailed throughout the day.

Though the day time saw a return to sultry weather in the capital, after a week of low temperatures, the evening saw thick clouds build up on the skyline, accompanied by thundershowers.

This was followed by a sudden spurt of hailstorms accompanied by rain.

Weathermen described the hailstorm and rain as an offshoot of the sudden rise in temperature today to 34 degree Celsius, nearly six degrees above normal.

''The rise in mercury, coupled with the influence of an upper air cyclonic storm originating from areas in Rajasthan caused a sudden build up of clouds towards the evening, resulting in hailstorms and rain,''the met office said.

Weathermen have forecast that another spell of rain and hailstorms tomorrow.

The coming days could witness a drop in mercury with weathermen predicting a fresh spell of rainfall in Himachal and Jammu and Kashmir in the next few days.

The BBC too has predicted a drop in maximum temperature to 29 degree celsius by the end of the week.
