Mirwaiz Hurriyat condemns Varanasi blasts

Srinagar, Mar 8 (UNI) The moderate Hurriyat Conference led by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq today condemned in strongest terms the twin blasts in the temple town of Varanasi which killed at least 17 people and wounded more than 100 others.

In a statement here, the Hurriyat said the blasts were aimed at fomenting communal violence in the country.

''The Hurriyat's stand is quite clear. We are against all forms of violence in which innocent and unarmed people are targetted and killed,'' the separatist amalgam added.

''We strongly condemn as senseless and inhuman the dastardly killing of innocent people in Varanasi. We believe that there are elements having nefarious designs wanted to foment communal tension by such acts,'' the Hurriyat said.

The separatist conglomerate also offered condolences to the families of all those killed in the blasts and prayed for speedy recovery of the wounded.
