Lifer for couple in murder case

Madikeri, Karnataka, Mar 8 (UNI) A local court has sentenced to life imprisonment a couple for gunning down a person and injuring two others at South Kodagu.

District and Sessions Court Judge Venkatesh yesterday sentenced them to life imprisonment on the murder charge and seven years rigorous imprisonment for attempt to murder.

The prosecution case was that Aiyappa and his wife Anitha, natives of Teralu village in Srimangala, had a property dispute with Chenganamada Thammaiah. The couple waylaid Thammaiah on April 21, 2002, when he was traveling in a tiller with two others near Teralu and opened fire at them. While Thammaiah died on the spot, the other two -- Chippanna and Devaiah -- were injured.
