Journalist shot at in Fatehpur

Lucknow, Mar 8: A journalist from Fatehpur Hanumant Singh and his brother were shot at near Rakhspalpur village under Dhata police station this morning (Mar 8, 2006) by some miscreants.

Mr Singh, who is a stringer for UNI, and his brother had been rushed to Allahabad for treatment as they were in a serious condition, District Magistrate of Fatehpur Girdhari Lal said.

Later, the police gunned down two criminals Maharaj Singh Yadav and one of his accomplices in the same area.

The reason behind the incident was not immediately known even as the police was investigating the matter, the Additional SP Uday Singh said.

The details of the encounter, to ascertain if they were the same criminals who shot at the scribe and his brother, are awaited at the district headquarters.
