Samastipur (Bihar), Mar 8: A high alert had been sounded in Samastipur rail division, close to Indo-Nepal border, following bomb blasts at religious places in Varanasi yesterday (Mar 8, 2006).

Divisional security commissioner A.N.Jha said here today that security had been beefed up at railway stations, along tracks and inside compartments of trains in view of apprehension of terrorist strikes.

He said sniffer dogs were pressed into service and metal detectors were installed to detect any explosive or other incriminating objects and to keep a close watch on suspected people.

Mr. Jha said special attention has been given to sensitive stations like Raxaul, Jaynagar, Forbesganj and Samastipur.

He said additional jawans had also been deployed for protection of railway offices.
