HM makes surprise checks at govt hospitals
Bangalore, Mar 8: Karnataka Health Minister R Ashok today (Mar 8, 2006) made surprise visits to government hospitals in the city and ordered action against two doctors and a stores-incharge for not discharging their duties properly.
Talking to newspersons here, he said at the Bowring hospital, he relieved a doctor of his duties immediately on finding him sleeping without attending to eight accident victims in the casualty ward.
Only Post Graduate medical students and nurses were in the ward, he added.
He said similarly at the KC General Hospital, he found two doctors giving prescriptions to patients to secure medicine from outside when the same was available in the stores.
Stating that disciplinary action would be taken against all the three, he said he had set a deadline of six months for all government hospitals in the State to maintain cleanliness, ensure availability of drugs to the needy and change in the attitude of doctors.
He said he would convene a meeting of District Health Officers soon and discuss about the improvement in delivery of services to patients in hospitals.
