HC issues direction to VC of DDA and 3 others in stray cattle issu
New Delhi, Mar 8 (UNI) The Delhi High Court today directed the Delhi Chief Secretary, Municipal Corporation of Delhi Commissioner, Delhi Developmant Authority Vice Chairman and New Delhi Municipal Council Chairperson to state what steps have been taken in dealing with the stray cattle and dogs menace in the capital.
Issuing the notice, a division bench comprising Justices Vijender Jain and Rekha Sharma, asked the authorities to file their reply on May 17, the next date of hearing. The court had also directed them to answer as to when they would shift the Goshadans to Narela.
The petitioner, Vikas Jain, argued there were 3000 cow-sheds in Delhi. The NGOs who were running these cow-sheds, however, stated that due to lack of funds they were not in a position to ensure their proper functioning.
The court said, ''no serious steps had been taken by the authorities in rehabilitating the stray cattle and dogs, in spite of various orders passed by the court.'' The court directed them to ensure proper food and care to them.
The court added, '' these stray cattle and dogs sometimes endanger the life of passers-by also and the issue had to be dealt with proper guidelines.'' The court had earlier intervened in the matter and directed the MCD to release the amount so that the funds do not lapse.
