Fresh alert sounded after UP incident
Srinagar, Mar 8: Anticipating militant strikes after blasts in Varanasi, a high alert has been sounded in the Kashmir valley, a senior police officer said.
''Though we are always on a high alert to thwart any militant attempt to cause disturbances, but there is apprehension of violence after the UP incident,'' Inspector General of Police K Rajinder Kumar told UNI.
He said ''We have issued fresh directions to field commanders to remain alert after the bomb blasts in Varanasi and the killing of a top commander of Pakistan based Lashker-e-Toiba (LeT) Salar alias Majeed alias Doctor.
He said there are intelligence inputs that militants will try to cause some disturbances.
''We have apprehension, that militants may strike on soft targets in the valley,'' he said.
However, the police chief in Kashmir said that security forces and police are capable enough to meet any challenge.
