Hubli, Mar 8 (UNI) Renowned journalist and North Karnataka Development Forum Chief Patil Puttappa today urged all political parties to field candidates from the backward region in the Rajya Sabha elections to be held on March 28.

Addressing a press conference here, he said this would definitely help the government in resolving the regional imbalance in North Karnataka to a certain extent.

Alleging that the North Karnataka region had been mete out with ''step-motherly treatment'' all these years by successive governments, he said it needed representation in the Rajya Sabha and also in the Boards and Corporations in the state.

Mr Puttappa said both the ruling and opposition parties should turn their attention towards the backward regionand strive for its development and implementation of the recommendations of Dr Nanjundappa Committee on the Regional Imbalance.
