Fake IAS arrested in Bathinda
Bathinda, Mar 8 (UNI) Police has arrested a man for cheating a girl into marriage by posing himself as an IAS officer.
An MSc in Zoology from Pathrala village, Gurmit Singh had spread a rumour of his being selected by the UPSC about ten months back.
After he managed to get publicity for his ''selection'', matrimonial proposals started pouring in for him from rich and influential families of the area.
A senior advocate of Bathinda and his wife, district education officer, approached the boy's family for marriage of their daughter.
The marriage was finalised and the girl's family even reportedly gave about Rs ten lakh for new construction and renovation of Gurmit Singh's old house.
On Monday, when the 'barat' had returned Pathala village at around 7 pm police found out the reality and registered a criminal case under Section 420, 406, 498-A,171 and 34 of IPC (cheating, breach of trust and wearing garb or carrying token used by public servant with fraudulent intent, demanding dowry ) against Gurmit and and others.
