Collector calls for women's helpline

Vijayawada, Mar 8 (UNI) Krishna District Collector Navin Mittal today stressed on the need for establishing a women's help line in the district on lines of child helpline.

Participating in a meeting here today, Mr Mittal said the police and NGOs should be taken into confidence before starting the helpline.

Warning against trafficking in women, the District Collector said the adminsitration will be on the alert and help rescue trapped women Penal action will be taken against those inciting girls.

On child marriages, he said it should be checked by spreading greater awareness among people in rural areas.

The Collector lauded the role of women's self-help groups (SHGs)in solving local problems and achieving economic development.

The SHGs had prepared a micro-credit plan at village level and banks were coming forward to assist them, Mr Mittal added.
