Lucknow, Mar 8 (UNI) Passengers were evacuated from the Mumbai-bound Pushpak Express following a bomb threat minutes before the train was to leave Lucknow Railway Station.

Police said passengers were asked to disembark after an anonymous caller informed Railway authorities of a bomb aboard the train.

Sniffer dogs would shortly be pressed into service to detect the explosives, if any.

The train leaves Lucknow station around 1950 hrs.

The threat comes about 24 hrs after a serial blast in the holy town of Varanasi claimed several lives.

A scene at the railway station was one of panic as passengers got down with their luggage.

Railway sources said the train might be delayed by about an hour.

Efforts, meanwhile, were underway to find out about the possibilities of prank.

A few months ago, the NER had received a letter threatening to blow up the station using RDX. A person was later arrested for writing the letter.
