Lucknow, Mar 8 (UNI) Members of the Opposition BJP and BSP today created pandemonium in both houses of Uttar Pradesh legislature over yesterday's serial blasts in Varanasi, leading to both chambers being adjourned for the entire day.

The assembly witnessed noisy scenes and BJP members even clashed with securitymen as they came near the speaker.

Later, BSP members boycotted the house to protest the speaker's ruling on the case of the rebel party MLAs.

The treasury benches kept waiting for the Chief Minister, who was slated to give statement on the Varanasi incident in the evening, but later the Speaker adjourned the house for the day.

Even before the house began its sitting both the BJP and BSP trouped into the well and climbed on the tables of principal secretary (Assembly) and assembly reporters, while raising raised slogans against the state government and demanding its dismissal.

The agitated members also threw paper balls at Speaker Mata Prasad Pandey.

This led to fistfight between MLAs and assembly marshals.

Principal secretary (Assembly) R P Pandey had to leave his chair after members climbed on his table. In the melee, some of the legislators fell down but escaped with minor injuries.

Meanwhile, the BJP moved an adjournment motion to discuss the situation after the serial blasts, which left at least 17 killed and 90 others wounded. BJP members from both the houses said they would later march to the Raj Bhawan to demand the dismissal of the state government.

BJP legislature party leader Lalji Tandon told reporters after the adjournment that the state government was supporting miscreants which had led to the serial blasts.

Throughout the pandemonium, Congress MLAs maintained silence and preferred to stand at their benches.

The Speaker read out his interim order on the rebel BSP MLAs who had joined the ruling SP in September, 2003.

He said since he had received various petitions on the issue following a judgement of the Allahabad High Court, he was allowing the rebel MLAs to share benches with the ruling party MLAs till he completed his hearing.

The same story was repeated in the Vidhan Parishad where the BJP and BSP disrupted the proceedings over Varanasi issue. After two adjourments, the House went through the agenda amid din. Later, the House was adjourned for the day.
