Australia to open its Consulate in Chennai

Chennai, Mar 8: Australian Prime Minsiter John Howard today (Mar 8, 2006) announced opening of an Australian Consulate in Chennai for the benefit of people in South India.

Addressing a gathering at the IIT Madras here where two MoUs were signed in his presence, he said the new Consulate would not only function as a Centre for providing visas, but would also boost the rate of number of students coming to Australia, besides providing other services.

The Consulate would be opened soon, he added.
