Major fire in NEERI laboratary in Nagpur; equipment gutted
Nagpur, Mar 7: A major fire broke out in a laboratory of the National Environmental Engineering Research Institute (NEERI) here today reducing the entire testing equipment worth around Rs 50 lakh to ashes.
The fire broke out at around 0530 hrs in the testing laboratory and was noticed by a watchman who immediately informed senior officials residing in quarters in the premises of NEERI complex, sources in the administration said.
Fire tenders were pressed into service and the blaze was put-off within half-an-hour, the sources added.
The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained, but it may be due to short circuit, the sources said.
However, a committee of experts has been set up to inquire into the incident and the report is expected within three days, the sources added.
No casulties were reported.
