Indo-US initiative in agriculture will boost productivity: PM
New Delhi, Mar 7: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today said that the Indo-US knowledge initiative in agriculture was a part of India's central agenda to break the stagnation in farm productivity and to bring about a second green revolution in the country.
As a part of his suo motu statement on the Indo-US nuclear deal in Parliament, the Prime Minister said under the growing partnership the US would support Indian universities, technical institutions and businesses in acquiring advanced knowledge in agriculture education, research and capacity-building, including in the area of bio-technology.
''Our first green revolution benefitted in substantial measures from assistance provided by the US. We are hopeful that the knowledge initiative in agriculture will become the harbinger of a second green revolution in our country,'' he said.
