India provides golden jubilee scholarship to 50 Nepalese students

Kathmandu, Mar 7 (UNI) Indian ambassador to Nepal Shiv Shankar Mukherjee gave away scholarships to 50 students in Kathmandu under the Golden Jubilee Scholarship Scheme of the Indian embassy.

The scholarships were awarded to 50 Nepalese students studying in different undergraduate courses in Nepal.

The scholarship sceme of the government of India was launched in 2002 to commemorate 50 years of Economic Cooperation between India and Nepal.

''A monthly stipend of Rs 3,000 is given to 10 students each doing MBBS/BE and Rs 2,000 per month is given to 30 students doing other courses, including BSc BBS, BBA, bio-technology, humanities and others,'' a press release issued by the Indian embassy in Kathmandu said.

The students are selected on the basis of merit and need and fifty per cent of the seats are reserved for students from educationally disadvantaged districts, it said.
