Haryana CM inuagurates Samsung mobile phone project

Chandigarh, Mar 7 (UNI) South Korean major Samsung would invest Rs 85 crore in various projects in Haryana by the year 2010, Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda said today.

He was inaugurating Samsung Telecommunications Mobile Phone Project at Industrial Model Township in Manesar today.

While thanking Samsung for investing in Haryana, Mr Hooda said that as a result of the effective steps taken by his Government to strengthen the infrastructure for development during one year, investment proposals of about Rs 1000 crore have been received.

Also, eleven Special Economic Zones were being set up with the approval of the Central Government.

Mr Hooda assured the officers of the Samsung company that the state government would provide all assistance in case they decided to expand their unit in Haryana.

He said that 3177 acres of area of IMT Manesar was being developed in four phases and out of it, 600 acres of land has already been alloted to Maruti Udyog Limited for setting up of its diesel engine unit. As many as 900 acres of land was being acquired in view of the growing demand of the entrepreneurs. A technology park was being set up by Haryana State Industrial Development Corporation over an area of 140 acres. Which would provide direct employment to about 12,000 trained youth and an equal number would get employment indirectly.

He reminded that during his recent visit to South Korea, he had been to Samsung Electronics and its research and development centre to see for himself the products being made there.

He said that he had also had a meeting with the President of the company Mr KT Lee who had told him that Samsung would set up many industrial units in other countries and Haryana would be among those destinations. Also, Mr Lee had said that their project at Manesar would have production unit on the pattern of China.

It was informed that the Samsung Telecommunications Mobile Phone Project would produce about 10 lakh phones every year and their number would be doubled by 2010. During this year the company would invest about 15 million dollar. Initially most of the hardware would be imported but later on the hardware units would come up in India.

Others who also spoke on the occasion, included Ambassador of Republic of Korea in India, JI Choi, President of Samsung Electronics, KT Lee, its executive Vice President DH Choe and JK Shin.
